We tasted a Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon "Backus Vineyard" 1985 *** first. This had a great nose, amazingly fresh acidity for a 23 year old with still rich fruit with a herbaceous mid note that created a nice complexity. Second up was a Laurel Glenn Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1985 ** which was a shade lighter, still herbaceous but with good structure too, and boysenberry on the palate. Last up was a Fife "Spring Mountain" Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1995 *** which was much younger, with less acidity and much riper fruit - no green notes at all. Phelps' Backus was the wine of the night for me.
Hey Sean,
ReplyDeleteNice take on the wines! It was alot of fun. Noticed that perhaps you have yet to try the 94 Monte Bello. We can change that soon. Take care. Greg
