2006 Dom. Saint Prefert CdP "Charles Giraud" ****

Deed red rose color. Closed aromatics at the moment; tangerine, dry bloody notes, dark cocoa and dried flowers. Needs decanting right now. This is tight and dry, pleasant at first, with noticeable soft tannins, cracked black pepper, somewhat racy red fruits and good Zzzing! on the finish. A cloying numbness on the front gums seems to be the only indication of about 14.5% alcohol. With three hours of air however the wine melds this cacophony of flavor into a robust yet softly toned Chateauneuf with bay leaf, beef stock, cherry candy and a touch of smoke. Drink 2015-2022.
