Cline Cellars and Robert Hall Syrahs
2009 Robert Hall Paso Robles Syrah ** was delightful, especially at around $20. Deep plum color, with somewhat cloying sweet notes, this wine strikes a nice balance on the palate and went well with pork chops one night, pasta the next.
2008 Cline Cellars Los Carneros Syrah 2008 *** was a step up. Bold black pepper notes on the front gave way to Hermitagesque fruit notes as the wine breathed. Well balanced fruit and acidity, no overt oak, and somewhat rough tannin, but overall about as good as it gets for $22. Do yourself a favor and bring a picnic to their winery, grab a couple bottles from the tasting room and spend the afternoon in Carneros. We also tasted Cline Cellars Marsanne Roussanne 2010 **
